About us
Established in 1908, Mental Health Connecticut (MHC) has been leading the mental movement for more than 100 years with a focus on ensuring dignified services are accessible, recovery is recognized as achievable, and mental well-being is attainable for all Connecticut residents. MHC has witnessed improvements in Connecticut’s mental health service system since its establishment, however, there is still progress that needs to be made in order for the mental health of all Connecticut’s residents to be deemed important and supported.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and in Connecticut, Mental Health Connecticut (MHC) is leading the charge to illuminate the state in green. This symbolic gesture serves as a beacon of hope, understanding, and support for individuals grappling with mental health challenges. Sasha Wahl, a local artist and ally of MHC, has crafted green light boxes, serving as both decor and a symbol of solidarity. You can see some of them in person at Playhouse on Park or check out the blog to visit Sasha's website! Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eD6BzTFt

As we embark on our #ThrowbackThursday journey for #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth this May, we are peaking into the history of the Connecticut Valley Hospital (CVH). "Connecticut Valley Hospital (CVH) opened in 1868 as the State’s public hospital for the treatment of persons with mental illness. Throughout its history, it has experienced many medical, social and political changes, all of which have affected such facilities. CVH has a cemetery in one part of that campus. All the gravestones have numbers — no names, no date of birth/death, no memorials. Why? Because when individuals died their families did not want the family name listed on the gravestones." Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eZ7Bp2_s Thank you to the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History for partnering with us for #ThrowbackThursday in May! A huge thank you to our Presenting Sponsor for this year's #letsfaceit campaign, ConnectiCare! #mentalhealthmatters #ConnecticutHistory

We are one week out from "Wake Up to Wellbeing"! Don't miss this discussion hosted by Collective Healing Arts Community (CHAC) and Mental Health Connecticut, Inc. where I will be joining some phenomenal individuals who have inspiring stories to tell. This panel discussion includes CT residents from diverse backgrounds who have all found unique ways to approach self-care. I had the pleasure to meet the panelists this week and I could not be more excited to share the stage with this group. We will be exploring our individual approaches to self-care, ways to support yourself and your loved ones who may be struggling, and how to tap into your own energy, power, and creativity to care for your mental health each and every day. Tickets are only $25 to join the discussion, network, and enjoy a continental breakfast as we "Wake Up to Wellbeing" on May 14. Purchase your tickets here: https://lnkd.in/eVnce6-c
