About us

Amazon is guided by four principles: customer obsession rather than competitor focus, passion for invention, commitment to operational excellence, and long-term thinking. We are driven by the excitement of building technologies, inventing products, and providing services that change lives. We embrace new ways of doing things, make decisions quickly, and are not afraid to fail. We have the scope and capabilities of a large company, and the spirit and heart of a small one. Together, Amazonians research and develop new technologies from Amazon Web Services to Alexa on behalf of our customers: shoppers, sellers, content creators, and developers around the world. Our mission is to be Earth's most customer-centric company. Our actions, goals, projects, programs, and inventions begin and end with the customer top of mind. You'll also hear us say that at Amazon, it's always "Day 1." What do we mean? That our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon's very first day - to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and focus on delighting our customers.

Not all heroes wear capes...some wear cat T-shirts. Meet Tom Scholl. Tom is very serious about two things: 1) internet security and 2) cats. As an Amazon Web Services (AWS) VP and distinguished engineer, Tom's job is to suss out the sources of unusual traffic spikes to help fight against cyberattacks to keep the internet a safe place for all of us. 🐱💻🦸♂️ Experts say his work at AWS has made a dent in a decades-old internet safety issue that affects everyone online. And he has a rare vantage point, given that AWS connects with nearly 5,000 networks total, in 184 locations globally, as of March 2024. His adjacent obsessions with both customers and cats have manifested in a series of internal cat-themed names for software projects that he has worked on during his 13 years at Amazon, all tracked in a “cat-alogue”, of course. 😉 Click the link to take a look at the amazing work he does to fight internet villains every day. ➡️ https://amzn.to/3xvxFek

When we started AWS, we looked at the undesirable situation of developers spending 70% of their time on the undifferentiated muck of managing infrastructure (vs only 30% on what differentiated their customer experiences) and aimed to flip that equation on its head. It’s made a pretty big difference in innovation and developer productivity.   Roughly 18 years later, we’re trying to solve another 70-30-like misalignment for developers, where developers are telling us that they’re spending roughly 70% of their time on repetitive and tedious tasks and code.   Today, we’re launching the general availability of Amazon Q, the world’s most capable GenAI-powered assistant for accelerating software development and leveraging companies’ internal data—and that aims to remove much of the muck of repetitive and tedious coding and data tasks for developers and employees at large.   On the software development side, Q doesn’t just generate code, it also tests code, debugs coding conflicts, and transforms code from one form to another (today, developers can save months using Q to move from older versions of Java to newer, more secure and capable ones; in the near future, Q will help developers transform their .net code as well). Q Agents does multi-step planning and reasoning to allow developers to string together multiple requests and have Q implement them.   On the internal data side, most companies have voluminous troves of internally relevant data that resides in wikis, intranet pages, Salesforce, storage repositories like Amazon S3, and a bevy of other data stores and SaaS apps that are hard to access. It makes answering straightforward questions about company policies, products, business results, code, people, and many other topics hard and frustrating. Q makes this much simpler. You can point Q at all of your enterprise data repositories, and it’ll search all this data, summarize logically, analyze trends, and engage in dialog with customers about it.   We also introduced today a powerful new capability called Q Apps, which lets employees describe, in natural language, what apps they want to build on top of this internal data, and Q Apps will quickly generate that app. This is going to make it *so* much easier for internal teams to build useful apps from their own data.   Customers are gravitating to Q, and we already see companies like Brightcove, British Telecom, Datadog, GitLab, GoDaddy, National Australia Bank, NCS, Netsmart, Slalom, Smartsheet, Sun Life, Tata Consultancy Services, Toyota, and Wiz using Q. And, we’ve only been in beta til today.   Very excited about how Q will change what’s possible for our customers, and being a part of helping them innovate more quickly.

Behind-the-scenes in the video below is our Package Decision Engine — an AI model designed and built to help reduce packaging and make deliveries more efficient. It considers various factors, like product type, dimensions, and even customer feedback, to determine the best packaging option for millions of items. From sturdy boxes for fragile items to minimal packaging for durable goods, the model ensures orders arrive safely while minimizing waste. Thanks in part to this AI technology, Amazon has already avoided over 2 million tons of packaging material worldwide since 2015. And this is just the beginning! 🚀 ♻️ Learn more: https://amzn.to/3UvYqbI Have you recently received an Amazon package? Odds are it was hand-picked by AI. 📦 #innovation #sustainability #AI

When we announced that we hit our fastest delivery speeds ever in 2023, we said that we would work to get even faster in 2024. And it’s happening: I’m proud to share that we’ve already set new records for Prime delivery speeds in the first three months of this year, with more than 2 billion items arriving the same or next day to Prime members around the world! Speed is only part of the equation—it also matters to customers how wide a selection of products they can get fast. And I’m happy to report that we now have 20 times as many products that can be delivered twice as fast as when Prime first launched. (Even I get surprised by just how many products we carry. I’m the new owner of an old pellet stove, and was shocked to find Amazon had just the right replacement part I needed. Pretty magical!) I appreciate our teams who innovate every day to deliver record speeds, unparalleled selection, and incredible value to our customers. We’re just getting started. https://lnkd.in/guFaYZUj

Ever wonder why Earth Day is held on April 22? It's because, back at the inception of Earth Day in 1970, April 22 fell between spring break and final exams, making it an optimal time for student participation. And while many of us aren’t in school, you're probably wondering how we are participating, not just on Earth Day but every day of the year. Here are some things we are doing to decarbonize and help preserve natural ecosystems around the world: 📦 Since 2015, we’ve avoided more than 2 million tons of packaging by doing things like swapping from plastic to paper packaging where possible and using new technologies that create the right size box or bag for products, which avoids the use of extra materials. 🚛 We're electrifying our last-mile delivery fleet by committing to over 100,000 electric delivery vehicles on the road by 2030, a project that will help eliminate millions of metric tons of carbon per year. 🚲 We’re increasing the use of zero-carbon emission transportation methods like e-bikes in dense urban areas, electric rickshaws in India, and the world’s first zero-emission cargo ship. 🌊 According to the United Nations, roughly half of the world’s population is experiencing severe water scarcity for at least part of the year. So to date, we are delivering 3.9 billion liters of water to local communities each year through Amazon Web Services (AWS) water replenishment projects – the equivalent of 1,560 Olympic pools. 👨🌾 We’ve partnered with agroforestry start-ups in Brazil and Peru to help farmers develop new sources of income while increasing their ability to store more carbon on their land. 🔋 We built the first-ever arena in the world to achieve a Zero Carbon Certification. The The Climate Pledge Arena features sustainable components like all-electric operations and 100% renewable electricity sources, both from on-site solar panels and off-site renewable energy. ♻ We’ve enabled more than 500 wind and solar projects around the world in pursuit of matching 100% of the non-renewable electricity consumed by our global operations by 2025. Once they’re operational, they are expected to generate more than 77,000 gigawatt-hours of clean energy each year. That’s enough to power 7.2 million U.S. homes! 🌲 We created the $100-million-dollar Right Now Climate Fund to help finance community-focused projects to mitigate the impacts of climate change. This includes planting 450,000 trees in the UK, restoring oyster colonies along the Puget Sound, and training 9,000 students on how to fight climate change in Spain. We know the responsibility that we hold to create an environment that addresses some of the world’s biggest environmental and societal challenges. We’re setting big goals and working backwards to achieve them. There is much more to do, and we’re rolling up our sleeves and getting to it. What are you passionate about this coming Earth Day? 🌎 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gtsfm2HT

"I think the one thing that we've seen pretty consistently in this relatively early stage of generative AI is that customers want choice." Our CEO, Andy Jassy, sat down with Andrew Ross Sorkin on CNBC's Squawk Box to talk about all things #GenAI - including how Amazon Bedrock offers customers the widest selection of industry-leading foundation models to help them build exciting new generative AI applications. And as of today, Claude 3 Opus is now available on Amazon Bedrock.
