Event Description: Wadsworth Atheneum founder Daniel Wadsworth played a key role in developing American landscape painting when he introduced the Hudson River School artist Thomas Cole to his future student, Frederic Church. They produced images of the Hudson Valley that captured a spirituality intensified by chromatic drama and luminosity. The beauty of the collection is perfectly paired with Harbison’s earnest Twilight Music, Glinka’s graceful Trio pathétique, and Beethoven’s regal and exquisite Septet in E-flat Major, Op. 20. All ticket-holders are invited to join the HSO for an end-of-season post-concert reception, made possible by a generous gift from The Saunders Foundation. The Sunday Serenades Chamber Music Series is presented in collaboration with the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art as a musical counterpart to special exhibitions and the permanent collections. Concerts take place in the museum galleries, and feature Concertmaster and Sunday Serenades Artistic Director Leonid Sigal and Hartford Symphony Orchestra musicians.
