Event Description: Managing Capital and Risk in High Growth Companies Joseph F. Coughlin ’80, a University of Hartford regent, is chief executive officer and founder of Corporate Risk Solutions, LLC (CRS). He has more than 30 years of experience in the consulting, advisory, underwriting, and brokerage segments of the insurance industry. Before forming CRS in 2002, Coughlin founded and served as president of JFC Consulting, the first truly innovative risk advisor to the sponsored alternative capital sector. From 1985–2000, he aggregated the largest centralized block of private equity insurance buying power in the industry before selling to a large insurance brokerage firm in 2000. Coughlin has been an active investor in a number of private equity and venture capital partnerships. He has also been an active individual investor in a host of start-up companies and has served on many for-profit and not-for profit boards. A three-sport athlete as an undergraduate at the University of Hartford, Coughlin has been a University regent since 2011. Michael Frain is based in New York, joined Warburg Pincus in 2008, leads the firm's Shared Services program and focuses on the firm's real estate investments. Through the Shared Services efforts, Mr. Frain delivers support to the firm’s portfolio companies across four main areas: 1) a network of specialized professionals who provide assessments of spend, employee benefits and various risk exposures; 2) a suite of preferred vendors who offer competitive economic terms and best-in-class service; 3) consortium opportunities that can drive savings within certain indirect spend categories; and 4) real estate related support, including in start-up and transactional situations. He is also a member of the firm's environmental, social and governance committee. Prior to joining Warburg Pincus, Mr. Frain held various senior level finance positions at Racebrook Capital, Monday Properties and ATC Management. He holds a B.B.A. in Accounting and an M.B.A. in Finance from Baruch College.
