Event Description:
$25, Reserved Seating (student rush $10) BYOB A father’s gambit, a monster’s revenge, a first kiss, and few idiots – tossed together and ripped apart by a ferocious storm. The Tempest is one of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays. Written at the end of his career, it holds beautiful text, complex characters, and provocative ideas. This August, The Glass Eye will be transporting audiences in NYC and Connecticut to Prospero’s enchanted isle. For our 3rd annual Shakespeare production, we want to blow you away with magic, music, and masks. In 2015, we brought you a folksy, homespun As You Like It. Last summer, we presented our 1930’s musical comedy inspired Twelfth Night. This August, The Glass Eye‘s Artistic Director, Kyle Metzger, is please to present The Tempest. This striking production will sweep you away to an island brimming with mystical music and fearsome creatures, featuring music by Tim Duncheon and Anna Stefanic, and introducing exuberant costumes by Max Archimedes Levitt. Our Tempest is inspired by Venice street musicians and Commedia Dell’arte. These classical influences form the off-beat, wriggly backbone of our story. The Tempest stars returning company members Zach Schute as Prospero and Veronique Hurley as Caliban. New to The Glass Eye company are Lindsey Austen as Ariel, Starr Kirkland as Miranda, Colleen Welsh as Trinculo/Antonio, Rocio Mendez as Stephano/Sebastian, Nick DeMarco as Ferdinand, and Kim Gant as Alonso. Performances are in August in various parks in NYC, on the beach in Stonington, CT, and for the first time at Playhouse on Park in West Hartford, CT.
